Heavy rain affected much of Tuesday nights non league football programme with plenty of games falling by the way side before kick including Bracknell Town at Marlow, while two games in Buckinghamshire were abandoned at half time – more on that later.

There was never any danger of Windsor vs Royal Wootton Bassett Town not starting in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division, the Stag Meadow pitch in its usual pristine condition.

Perhaps Royalists fans may have wondered if it was their night though when Brad Pagliaroli seemed to steer the ball through Nojus Trinovas to give the visitors a 1-0 lead after 11 minutes.

The game turned though on a calamitous five minutes for Bassett on the half hour, with Windsor threating an equaliser.

Windsor’s equaliser came when Michael Miller was sent off after the referee adjudged him to have deliberately handled the ball with it heade goalwards on 31 minutes, Luke Brooks-Smith converting the penalty.

A few moments later, Tomas Kalinauskas was bundled over in the box, Brooks-Smith converting his second penalty of the night while Bassett were reduced to 9-men for a period after the sin bin was put to use.

In truth in the second half, only a smart and sharp performance from Bassett goalkeeper Edward Cavanagh – who’d already impressed in the first half – alongside some wayward Windsor finishing kept the score down.

It looked like one of those nights where the visitors might nick a leveller, right up until the 84th minute when Danny Horscroft applied a trademark deft touch to curl the ball home at the far post.

Across the M4, Holyport did their promotion hopes no harm with a 3-0 win at home to Wallingford Town who were by no means out of the promotion race.

It was 0-0 at the break but Steven Deverall broke the deadlock on 55 minutes – his first of two on the night while Fabian Driffill got Ports other goal.

Elsewhere, both Holmer Green vs Reading City and Flackwell Heath vs Burnham were abandoned, the former after 20 minutes and the latter at half time. City were leading 2-0 at the time with boss Simon Johnson tweeting that the game shouldn’t really have started.
