The weather and the result went Wokingham & Emmbrook’s way as the club celebrated the life of stalwart supporter Richard Croyden who sadly passed away last week.

A minutes applause was impeccably observed before kick off and Callum Eagle and Jake White got the Sumas off to a terrific start with a goal each.

Wokingham are chasing promotion from the Uhlsport Hellenic League Division One East this season and Josh Harris sealed things late on to give Dan Bateman’s side a 3-0 win.

A Steven Deverall hat trick gave fellow promotion chasers Holyport a 4-2 win at Didcot Town Development, Alan Ackerman nabbing the other while Woodley United drew 2-2 at home to Thame Rangers with goals from Lamin Ceesay and Luke Axton-Hall.

‘A lot of football still to play!’

In the Hellenic Premier Division, Shrivenham fought back at home to Binfield after the Moles had gone 2-0 up in Oxfordshire through a Sean Moore double.

Shrivvy hit back in the second half to take a point in a 2-2 draw with manager Roger Herridge saying: “Disappointing to concede so late but probably a fair result on the balance of play.”

Reading City manager Simon Johnson had less to smile about as his side were beaten 3-0 at third placed Fairford Town.

Johnson tweeted: “Poor result and poor performance yesterday after a few good results recently. It’s a young group though and in our first season together there are still plenty of positives and a lot of football still to play!”

Virginia Water also tasted defeat after a good recent run, beaten 3-1 at Stag Meadow by Longlevens, the Waters goals coming from Mike Chambers.

Ascot maintain title charge

Calum Ferguson and Harry Laflin got the goals in the opening 13 minutes as Ascot United maintained their four point lead at the top of the Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Premier Division.

Mid-table Cobham’s chances all but evaporated when they were reduced to 10 men following a heavy challenge on James Richardson, two minutes after the visitors had a penalty appeal waved away.

Eversley & California won what boss Matthew Angell called a ‘must win’ game at home to FC Deportivo Galicia, goals from Cam Edwin and Paras Gill securing a 2-1 win.

The Boars are aiming to get out of trouble at the bottom of Division One and are now level with 18th placed Chessington & Hook United who’s game at Epsom & Ewell was postponed.

Sandhurst Town had an ‘uneventful afternoon’ at Fleet Spurs, a 0-0 draw between two sides chasing a top four spot. No word yet on how Mitchel Cooper fared in his dance competition.
