On Saturday several games fell foul of the weather but one that survived was the top of the table clash in the Uhlsport Hellenic Division One East between Risborough Rangers and Holyport.

Risborough are the heavy favourites for the title, they hadn’t lost in the league all season and started the day 12 points ahead of Holyport in 2nd place, with a game in hand.

Port were also in good form and had been on a winning streak of 6 games, a run that stretched back to mid-February when Risborough won 4-2 at Summerleaze Village. Manager Derek Sweetman had said before the tie there were ‘no expectations of us‘ going in to the match.

In a game that was played in tough conditions, that were not conducive to free-flowing football, chances were few and far between for either side. Neither side was able to find the back of the net and the game finished 0-0.

Holyport can take heart by becoming the first side to take points off Risborough since early December and the first side to do so at Windsor’s (Risborough’s home ground) all season.

Elsewhere Chalvey Sports beat Langley in a Berkshire derby at Summerleaze Village. Two strikes from Adyn Coomber gave the Stabmonks a 2-0 lead at the break and 10 minutes from time the striker completed his hat-trick with a close-range effort. The final score was 3-0 and the win sees Chalvey climb to 5th in the table, one spot outside the places, although they have played more games than those around them.

At the Hithercroft, Wallingford Town scored a late winner in their match against Woodley United. After a goalless first half the home side took the lead just before the hour mark when Charlie Silkstone squared for Euan Aitchinson to finish. The lead only lasted 5 minutes as Lamin Ceesay played in Benjamin Anderson to score. The winning goal came in injury time when a deep cross was met at the back post by Rio Burgoyne who headed home.

Jamie Mitchell gets the winner for Sandhurst Town

In the Combined Counties League Division One Sandhurst Town kept pace with their promotion rivals with a 3-2 win at Bagshot. The Fizzers took the lead after 11 minutes when a Luke Wayborn cross was turned in by Sam Green.

Against the run of play the hosts equalised on 35 minutes, but in injury time before the break Sandhurst were ahead again as a Luke Cox free kick was headed in by Green for his second of the game.

On the hour mark Bagshot were level again, but on 85 minutes Jamie Mitchell scored from a George Dawson-Clark layoff to give Sandhurst all 3 points. The win keeps the Fizzers in 6th, 2 places and 2 points outside the promotion places, but with games in hand over those above them.
