It was very much points on the board for Bracknell Town and Thatcham Town as the two step four sides got their respective Pitching In Isthmian and Southern League campaigns off and running.

For Bracknell Town it was a solid start to the season with goals from captain Max Herbert and new signing Louis Soares that gave them a 2-0 win over Chipstead at Larges Lane while Thatcham Town held Paulton Rovers to a 0-0 draw at the Stacatruc stadium. It was a busy weekend of FA Vase First Qualifying Round football as well. Possibly the biggest surprise of the day saw Windsor knocked out by United Counties League Division One side Long Buckby in a 3-0 defeat at Stag Meadow. Running them close though were Hellenic League Division One East promotion hopefuls Holyport, knocked out by Combined Counties League Division One FC Deportivo Galicia 1-0.

Elsewhere, Eversley & California were beaten 3-1 by Long Crendon and Chalvey Sports went down 5-1 at North Greenford United but Reading City did advance courtesy of a Michael Butcher free-kick in a 1-0 win at Virginia Water on Friday night.

In the Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Premier Division, a solitary Daniel Bailey goal was enough to give Ascot United the win at Southall despite an 89th minute sending off for Aiden Higgs for a second bookable offence.

In the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division, the big clash saw Binfield beat fellow title challengers Westfields 2-0 at Hill Farm Lane thanks to an early goal from Jamie McClurg and a second half strike from Asa Povey who on another day could have had a hat-trick. Read Dave Wright’s full Binfield report here.

Meanwhile, in Division One East, Kidlington Reserves and Langley shared 10 goals in a 5-5 draw with Dean Papali scoring four and Paulo Cicero with the other.
