Bracknell Rangers lift Aldershot Cup in tense finale

Congratulations to Bracknell Rangers who won the Aldershot Cup Final, delayed from last season, in front of a sizeable crowd at Farnborough FC by 4-3 against FC Fleet. It was a topsy-turvy sort of game that Rangers deserved to win, shading much of the exchanges across the 90-minute period.

Goals from George Lock and a penalty from Ryan Martin gave Rangers a 2-0 lead inside 33 minutes. A penalty and an equaliser followed for Fleet putting the sides in at half time level on 2-2. Fleet had the better of the opening 10 minutes of the second half and deservedly took the lead but Rangers rallied and a sustained period of pressure led to the equaliser scored by George Lovell.

As the sides seemed to be preparing for a penalty shoot-out, there was late drama as Rangers forced successive corners leading to a fierce strike on goal being athletically saved on the line by a Fleet defender. The offending player was shown red and the resulting penalty was despatched coolly by Luke Pearse to give Bracknell Rangers the win by 4-3.

Raglan went top of the Premier Division with an impressive 2-0 win against Finchampstead Athletic whilst Woodley Saints beat an “out of sorts” FC Fernhill by 5-1.

Bearwood Wanderers went top of Division 1 with a 3-2 win against Finchampstead Athletic Reserves. In the only other game played in the Division on a weather-hit Sunday Panthers shaded an eleven-goal exchange with Athletico Forest by 6-5 giving Panthers there first points of the season.
