Finchampstead inflict first Thames Valley Premier League defeat on Berks County

The Thames Valley Premier League continued on Saturday with one the busiest calendars of any league in the south-east of England. With games taking place on Mondays and Wednesdays some teams are playing multiple matches per week.

Saturday

Burghfield 0 Finchampstead 0

In-form Burghfield welcomed Finchampstead to the Rec on Saturday and played out an entertaining 0-0 draw. Both teams had chances to win the game and Burghfield even had a penalty shout in the second half. However, the two sides will be happy with taking a point from the fixture that was played in beautiful sunshine and a fresh breeze.

Marlow United 2 Richings Park 3

A quickfire hat-trick from Ricky Cave gave Park a three goal lead within half an hour, however a spirited comeback from Marlow United brought the scores back to 2-3 with a brace from Neil Austin. Marlow United came close to an equaliser, however Richings Park did enough to secure a well deserved three points.

Newbury 0 Berks County 4

The Swords continued their assault on the Thames Valley Premier League title and Step 6 football with a convincing four-goal victory at Newbury. Goals from Tom Nower, Ben Hall, Ebby Opuko-Ware and John Swift handed the away side all three points. County are now three points clear at the top of the table and have won ten of their eleven league fixtures this season. They face second in the table Finchampstead on Monday night in a massive game at Bracknell Town’s Larges Lane.

Westwood Wanderers 1 Maidenhead Town 3

Town travelled to J12 of the M4 to face Westwood on Saturday. Goals from Laurence Henry, James Rattenbury and Aleksandar Yankov were enough for Maidenhead to secure victory.

Windlesham & Chobham 4 Reading City U23 2

In the highest scoring game of the weekend Windlesham were victorious by four goals to two over Reading City U23s.

Wraysbury Village 2 Cookham Dean 1

Cookham’s difficult re-start continued with a 2-1 loss at the Memorial Ground in Wraysbury on Saturday. Billy Hart and Sillah the goalscorers for the home side.

Monday

Berks County 0 Finchampstead 1

A second clean sheet in three days and a solitary goal from Stephen Hunt was enough to inflict Berks County’s first loss of the season. Finch are now level at the top of the league with Berks County with County having three games in hand.

Burghfield 4 Westwood Wanderers 1

An own goal, a brace from Lewis Butcher and a Chris Smalley Ward gave Burghfield all three points against Westwood Wanderers in Burghfield’s second home game in three days.

Maidenhead Town 0 Windlesham & Chobham 0

No goals at Bisham Abbey between Maidenhead Town and Windlesham, but a competitive game played in the right spirit according to reports.
