A promising start to the 2021/22 Combined Counties League Premier Division North season for Reading City has given way to a torrid run of results that has seen the Cityzens without a win in all competitions since beating Hallen in the FA Cup at the start of August.

Simon Johnson’s side have played nine times since then, including the abandoned fixture at home to Holyport and earned points against Ascot United and Tadley Calleva, but the run came to an end on Saturday with a 2-0 win at CB Hounslow United thanks to goals for Joe Pilling and Leyton Basterfield.

Cityzens boss Simon Johnson said: “Got the job done today v CB Hounslow to gain a much needed three points. More bodies to come back over the next few weeks, but it’s a squad game and these boys are pulling in the right direction.”

Elsewhere in the division, a nasty injury to Wembley’s Ethan Tyrer saw the game at Ascot United abandoned late on, the Yellamen later revealed via Twitter their opponents player had been given the all-clear and released from hospital on Sunday.

Windsor – who were without new signing James Harper – were beaten 2-0 at Spelthorne Sports while Tadley Calleva were beaten 2-1 at home to Southall despite the visitors having former Calleva player (as well as Portsmouth, Luton Town and Birmingham City) Rowan Vine sent off.

On Friday night, Virginia Water and Holyport played out a 2-2 draw with Jesse Atiase and Jack Hall scoring for the home side while Steven Deverall and Daniel Rapley struck for Port.

In Division One, Berks County continue to impress with a 4-1 win at home to Bedfont & Feltham. The Swords goals came courtesy of Mark Jordan (2) and Leslie Sackey (2) while Eversley & California continued their good form with a 2-1 win at home to Enfield Borough – Connor Allston and Paras Gill on target for the Boars.

AFC Aldermaston beat Sandhurst Town 1-0 at the Stacatruc Stadium despite seeing Rupen Limbu sent off, the only goal of the game coming from Sid Gbla while Wallingford Town left it late to level at home to Chalvey Sports, substitute Matthew Brown scoring in injury time after Michael Croker and Sherif Elghoneimi had given the Stabmonks a two-goal headstart inside 10 minutes.

Finally, Woodley United were beaten 2-0 at home to London Lions with Austin Lipman scoring both goals for the visitors.
