Wokingham & Emmbrook boss Clive McNelly has swooped to bolster his Lowther Road defence with the recapture of James Charlton from Binfield.

The Sumas boss – fresh from a confidence boosting derby win at home to Woodley United at the weekend – put in a seven day approach for the defender and is understood to have completed the transfer on Wednesday evening.

Charlton joined Binfield in the summer after making 14 appearances for the Satsumas in 2015/16 and made 10 appearances for the Moles this season – the last being the 4-2 defeat at Ardley United on 11th October.

McNelly also expects to have captain Will Day back in contention to further strengthen the Lowther Road side ahead of Saturday’s trip to second placed Bicester Town where a win could see the Sumas up to 7th in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 East.

McNelly said: “Bringing back James Charlton is great news for Wokingham & Emmbrook and I am delighted to have at with us at Lowther Road again.

“James will be travelling with the squad to Bicester on Saturday and will add a commanding tower of strength both in defence and in the opposition penalty area from set pieces. This news couldn’t come at a better time with club captain Will Day returning after a six week absence due to an appendix operation.”

Herridge

Binfield boss Roger Herridge wished his former player well saying: “James has left because he couldn’t give the level of commitment needed due to change in personal circumstances. He is a great lad and did very well in his short spell with us at Binfield. He has gone back to Wokingham to play with his mates and I wish him well.”
