Reading Women have signed 18-year-old Charlie Estcourt on a professional contract for the forthcoming FA WSL 1 spring series.

Estcourt spent three months on loan at WSL 2 side Bristol City where she made 10 appearances scoring twice, and was part of the City side that finished second and won promotion to the top division.

The contract is Estcourt’s first professional deal, but the Welsh international made enough of an impression on Royals boss Kelly Chambers to be given a contract.

That ‘impression’ will have included this goal for Wales against Israel at Newport County which even had Welsh Euro 2016 hero Hal Robson-Kanu gushing:

Robson-Kanu, famous for ‘that‘ goal against Belgium tweeted his approval following the strike in September.

In an interview on the Welsh FA website, former Royal Helen Ward said of her international team mate: “Charlie has been involved for a couple of years now, and every camp she looks stronger and more experienced,” enthused Ward.

“She’s played quite a few games now for her age now and scored a couple of goals too. Those that are following in her footsteps have got someone they can see doing it, and that they are not far behind. They just have to keep working just as hard as she does.”
