Former Ascot United youngster Harrison Cliff has made a step up the English Football Pyramid with BetVictor Southern League Division One South side Basingstoke Town.

Cliff featured primarily for the Yellamen’s Allied Counties Youth League side making 15 appearances this season with five goals. He also featured five times for the clubs development side and was part of the Berks & Bucks County FA under 18 side that won the South & West Counties championship.

Toward the end of the 2018/19 season Cliff signed for Holyport with Derek Sweetman giving the youngster his first senior appearances in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Division One East.

On twitter, Basingstoke – who suffered relegation from the Premier Division at the end of last season – announced the signing on Sunday with a short montage of clips and a frankly terrifying pre roll.

Ascot United tweeted: “Good luck to Harrison Cliff on the next step of his football journey!”

A post from Holyport’s twitter account wished their former player luck. It said: “Pleased to have been able to play a small part in his development, has a big future and will be keeping an eye on him. Best of luck Harrison.”

Basingstoke are currently managed by Martin Kuhl, a former youth team coach at Reading FC and the father of former Royals youngster Aaron Kuhl.

Kuhl was placed in interim charge of Reading in December 2015 following the sacking of Steve Clarke and made over 100 appearances for both Birmingham City and Portsmouth in a long playing career that also took in spells at Sheffield United, Watford and Derby County amongst others.

He would seem ideally placed to push Cliff on to the next level and said of recent additions to his squad: “We’ve signed some talented players that we know the fans will enjoy watching and support.

“We’re not rushing into signing players. We’re looking at talented players with good attitudes that want to play for the new Basingstoke Town.”
