Rachael Laws has returned to former club, Liverpool Women after her contract at Reading expired at the beginning of June.

Goalkeeper Laws initially started out at Sunderland in 2006 before making a switch to Liverpool on loan in 2013 and spending a successful 5 years at the club. In 2018, she made a permanent move to Reading FC Women stating in a BBC interview: “Reading is somewhere I want to personally be and thrive hopefully while I am here”. Laws made 13 appearances as keeper in her two-year stint at the club, with Grace Maloney firmly established as the first-choice ‘keeper within the squad.

Laws will be keen to impress as recently relegated Liverpool will, without a doubt, be fervent to get themselves back into top-flight football having picked up just one win and six points total.

Jen Herst, Liverpool’s goalkeeping coach explained on the club website: “We had a great first session with Lawsy. Her positive attitude, work-rate and experience shone through. I’m really looking forward to working with her over the coming season.”

Berkshire club Woodley United will undoubtedly be gutted to see Laws leave also as she was coaching the men’s squad alongside her Reading keeper role.

The transfer window still remains relatively quiet with the futures of Laws’ former teammates Mayumi Pacheco, Millie Farrow, Jo Potter, Sophie Howard, Maxime Bennink, Remi Allen and Charlie Estcort following their own Royals departures yet to be confirmed.
