A second Arsenal player is en route to Reading as Emma Mitchell puts pen to paper today alongside former team-mate Danielle Carter. In an official statement on the club website, Royals boss Kelly Chambers said of the latest addition, “I am extremely excited to work with Emma, not only because of her ability but she is a very honest, hard-working player who will add that competitive edge to everything we do.”

The Scottish international initially began her senior career at Glasgow City in 2008 before spending a year at German club SGS Essen in January of the 2013 season. But, after just four months she made a permanent move to Arsenal where she made 74 appearances securing her spot as a versatile, athletic left back and nabbing herself 3 goals in the process between 2013 and 2020.

Mitchell bagged herself a WSL Cup in 2013, the FA Cup in 2014 and another WSL Cup in the following year. With another FA Cup secured in 2016, with the winning goal scored by fellow new recruit Danielle Carter to beat Chelsea 1-0.

As of January this year, Mitchell completed a loan spell at North London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, before the season was brought to a halt by the current coronavirus pandemic with two appearances on the pitch and a rocket free-kick scored to make her goal tally one.

A firm favourite in the Scottish national team also, she has represented the club from the U-17’s age group up to the senior squad, making her debut in 2011 and scoring her first international goal against Iceland in August 2012 with 91 appearances.

This announcement makes Mitchell the second of two confirmed signings by the club which will begin to put Reading fans at ease after the departure of no less than eight first team players contracts expired in June.
