Having made three cracking new signings in Danielle Carter, Emma Mitchell and Deanna Cooper from FA WSL rivals Arsenal and Chelsea, the club has begun confirming contract extensions for current squad members.

A product of the phenomenally successful Reading academy, Kiera Skeels signs her first professional contract having joined the club at the Under-10’s age category and made her way through the ranks including securing the role of Academy captain. She also made international appearances for the U-19’s Lionesses squad in the La Manga tournament back in March, where England won 3 in 3.

Reading boss Kelly Chambers said of the young Reading hopeful in a club statement, “Kiera has definitely earned her contract. She trained with the first team all of last season and I’ve seen her come on leaps and bounds and grow in confidence. She is undoubtedly a player who has a bright future in the game and I can’t wait to see what more there is to come.”

Tash Harding, stalwart forward and the club captain since Chambers handed her the armband at the beginning of the last season, secures herself a two-year contract with the Royals, having made 39 club appearances. Harding also features in Jayne Ludlow’s Welsh side as vice-captain. Harding will be looking to seal Wales’ first-ever international qualifying spot when the Euro’s resume having been halted by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Reading manager had the following say in the official statement, “Tash was an important player for me to keep, not just because she is my captain but for what she brings to the group both on and off the pitch.”

And the final signing of today’s trio is Lily Woodham, having joined Reading for the 2018/19 season from Bristol City she made 4 appearances for the club before going on loan to Charlton Athletic for 2019/20 season. She too has featured for the Welsh international squad having represented her country at u-17’s and u-19’s, she’ll no doubt be looking to make history as Ludlow oversees all the women’s squads.

Kelly Chambers stated on the club site that, “After a loan spell last season, this season is Lily’s time to step up and be an important part of the team. I can’t wait to see what more we can get from her and watch her develop and grow.”

The Royals are certainly shaping up to be a defensive powerhouse for the upcoming season with this week’s contract renewals and new signings.
