Slough Town midfielder Simon Dunn has announced his departure from the Vanarama National League South side on social media.

27-year-old Dunn, who made his debut in August 2016 at St Neots Town, played 139 games for the Rebels scoring 17 goals during a four season spell in East Berkshire.

Writing on Twitter, Dunn said: “It’s been a real pleasure playing for Slough Town for the last 3-4 seasons. Sad to leave but I will certainly look back with plenty of fond memories. A fantastic club with great managers, players and fans who I’m sure will see even more success in the coming seasons!

The midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at former club Basingstoke Town of the Southern League South Division One after a period out of the game, and moves on with the best wishes of Rebels co-manager Jon Underwood: “Simon has been an absolute pleasure to manage from the first day to the last. A real top player and fantastic person who we wish all the very best for the future, both on and off the field.”

The Rebels – who suffered disappointment in the National League South play-offs following defeat to Dartford that ended their promotion hopes earlier in July – will have to wait a little longer than most Berkshire clubs after it was revealed their league campaign won’t begin until early October.

The late National League start will also affect Maidenhead United and Hungerford Town but clubs from step 3 down, including Bracknell Town and Thatcham Town are expect to kick off in mid September.
