38 goals and 101 appearances for South Korea makes Jeon Ga-eul the country’s fifth most capped player in the country’s history, their second-highest goal scorer and she’s now Reading’s latest acquisition in an already busy and exciting transfer window.

The attributes just keep on coming for Jeon as she’s also the first South Korean to play in the National Women’s Soccer League (NSWL) and the Australian W-League. She’s got seven titles across ten years and has two MVP awards to her name.

She made her English debut when she joined Bristol City in January this year, where she featured in the team’s Women’s FA Cup fourth-round victory over Durham. Perhaps an unfortunate time for Ga-eul to join, as many games were cancelled when storms swept the country and then football was brought to a halt by the coronavirus pandemic meant she only played in two games for Bristol.

In an interview on the club website, Jeon said “As we have seen, the league is attracting the best players in the world and I’m happy to be a part of it. Unfortunately, my time in the WSL with Bristol was very short last season because of the Covid shutdown. So English football fans have not seen much of me, I hope that I can show them my ability here at Reading.”

That makes Jeon signing number six of the transfer window alongside Danielle Carter and Emma Mitchell from Arsenal, Deanna Cooper from Chelsea, Erin Nayler from Bordeaux and Jess Fishlock from OL Reign
