Bracknell Town girls teams are going from strength to strength after a hectic summer of tournaments and training.

The girls only arm of Bracknell Town Juniors was setup in January 2016 by mum Carol Checkley after she realised there was a shortage of girls sides in the local area with many playing in mixed boys and girls teams.

‘We won some, we lost some and we drew some so we are really proud of them all’

Carol’s daughter Chloe plays in the under 10s and the teams competed in four tournaments over the summer at Bracknell, Tilehurst, Thatcham and Westwood with the under 8s receiving a fair play award in one of the tournaments.

Speaking to FootballinBracknell Carol said: “It’s been a great experience for the girls and they have all enjoyed it playing against teams that have been playing together for three or four years.

“Our Bracknell girls played some great football, we won some, we lost some and we drew some so we are really proud of them all especially when I think back to January when we started – some girls had never played before.

“Going into the tournaments has been great for the girls, and meeting some of the Reading Women’s players at the Westwood tournament [Jade Boho-Sayo pictured above] left them a little star-struck”.

Training

Training takes place every Thursday at Birch Hill Recreation ground with coaching from members of the Ladies senior team as well as several volunteers and player numbers have grown steadily from the 15 that took part in a cold taster session after Christmas to a very healthy 40.
