It’s the second home game in a week for Reading FC Women as they face the reigning WSL1 Champions Chelsea Ladies. Although Chelsea are a few points adrift of Manchester City in the title race this time around they are still jam packed with talent and will be an extremely tough challenge. So what can we expect if we were to pop along to Adam’s Park at 2pm on Sunday? Let’s have a ponder…

Reading set up to not concede

For those that have seen the Royals in action this season you’ll know that a strong defence has been at the heart of what the team has been building themselves around. Unfortunately however well the back 5 / 6 have played (and they have been pretty awesome!) Reading have only managed one clean sheet so far in the league, away at Birmingham.

With their focus understandably on keeping things tight they have only scored more than one on one occasion, away to Notts County, with goals from Helen Ward and Laura Bassett. If the focus remains on securing the defence the game is likely to depend on how well we perform in the defensive third and how quickly and effectively we can counter attack because time spent with the ball in the final third is likely to be at a premium.

Jade Boho-Sayo leading the line up front

Jade has played a lot of this season with her back to goal, with the aim of holding the ball up long enough for Lauren Bruton and Emma Follis to get up with her. It has been a tough role, but one that looks set to continue for the remaining few games. Jade has proven goalscoring pedigree as shown in her spell at Bristol Academy last season so hopefully will find the net on Sunday to get things rolling.

Hard work and determination

There’s one guarantee when watching Reading FC Women and that’s 100% effort and commitment. Whatever the style of football, however tough the opposition, whatever position they are asked to play in each and every one of them will give it their very best. Although it’s been a tough season without many goals to celebrate it’s a squad of players that are easy to support because they give everything and feel the results as much as we do. So win, lose or draw on Sunday you can be certain the result won’t have been caused by a lack of effort.

With just 4 games remaining this season and with safety still in the balance if you haven’t yet seen a Reading FC Women match now is a great time to come along to see what it’s all about, against top quality opposition.
