Wales international forward Melissa Fletcher has signed her first professional contract with Reading Women FC and joins Mary Earps and Lauren Bruton in committing her immediate future to the club.

Fletcher played 12 times for the Royals in their debut FA WSL 1 season scoring twice as Reading avoided a swift return to the second division and has signed a deal until summer 2018.

A press release from the club says ‘Fletcher is a chartered accountant and had been balancing a career in football with a part-time role with Ernst & Young. She has now decided to dedicate her time entirely to professional football.

‘I’ve been a part of this club since I was 8 years old and have seen it develop into the club that it is today’

On signing her first ever professional contract Fletcher said “I’m really pleased to have signed a new contract with Reading Women FC. I’ve been a part of this club since I was 8 years old and have seen it develop into the club that it is today. I couldn’t be happier to have extended my time here and I look forward to the challenges that the new season will bring”.

Manager Kelly Chambers: “Fletch is one of our longest serving players so it’s great for her to be able to turn professional with us and be in full-time with the group. She’s a player who has many desirable qualities including an eye for goal. When she started with us she would never have envisaged the women’s game turning professional, let alone it doing so while she still has a career in football; it shows how far we have come in such a short space of time!”.
