The Southern Region Women’s League Division 1 title race is effectively down to it’s final three runners after Ascot United hit four without reply past previous leaders Oxford City Nomads.

City had been deducted four points for fielding an ineligible player during the week to give the Yellawomen the psychological advantage of top spot going in to the game and they did not disappoint with four second half goals in a 4-0 win at Ascot Racecourse.

Lucy Holzman-Clarke and teammate Amy Woollard are both vying for the divisions golden boot and both are got themselves on the score sheet with one each while Georgia Bowers and Alexandra Franken rounded off the scoring.

Also in Division 1, Woodley United won 3-1 at bottom side Winchester City Flyers Reserves thanks to goals from Rebecca Lowes and two for Rosie Page-Smith.

In the SRWFL Premier it wasn’t such a good afternoon for Bracknell Town Ladies who remain at the bottom after a 3-1 defeat at home to Milton Keynes City – Tina Leahy getting the goal for the Robins.

Bracknell Town’s Development side fared better though in their Thames Valley Counties Women’s League Division 2 South match, defeating bottom side Thatcham Town 7-0 in what was a one sided affair – with credit due to the home side who opted still to play despite not having eleven players rather than cancel the game. Thatcham started with nine players but a tenth turned up twenty minutes into the match and they battled bravely throughout.

Nicole Edwards (pictured) picked up the player of the match award along with two goals while there was also a double for Ariesha Stephenson-Lewis and one each for Michelle Melia, Abi Dixon and Amy Martin.

Finally, Shellie Irvine and Shannon Mather got two each as Sandhurst Town beat Flackwell Heath 4-2 to reignite the Fizzers faint promotion hopes.
