Woodley United Ladies have been quietly going about their business in Southern Region Women’s Football League Division 1 South and made it three wins in a row with a 2-0 victory at home to promotion chasing New Milton Town.

The Kestrels had goalkeeper Nicole Haines to thank along with Ellen Surtees and Clara Stringer for keeping the score goalless going in to half time with the visitors well and truly on top.

It was a different story in the second half though as the home side made their intentions clear – a goal line clearance by the visitors certainly set the tone for what was to come.

The breakthrough came from a corner on 67 minutes, Tiff Newland firing home her first goal for the club.

Five minutes later it was top scorer Rosie Page-Smith (pictured) who wrapped things up after New Milton failed to deal with another corner.

The win was a huge favour for top of the table neighbours Ascot United who were held to a surprise 0-0 draw by bottom side Winchester City Flyers Reserves.

United remain five points clear of second placed Barton Rovers (and six from New Milton) but have played more games than their rivals.

It was despair in the Premier Division for bottom side Bracknell Town who led 1-0 at Newbury through Jo Atkins in the first half but an equaliser and a fortunate wind assisted second for the home side saw the Robins remain pointless at the bottom of the table.

In the Thames Valley Counties Women’s League Division 2 South Sandhurst Town edged a seven goal thriller at home to Wargrave Ladies – winning 4-3.

There was one apiece for Nicola Dixon, Sally Hall, Shellie Irvine and Shannon Mather.
