There’s a new local women’s team in the area after Wokingham & Emmbrook announced they have committed to supporting ladies football, helping a local team continue to play in 2017/18.

Recent changes to the structure at Bracknell Town meant the Robins had decided not to have any adult ladies teams represent the club. As a result there was the risk that some players would not be able to continue or have to find new teams.

Bracknell had run first and reserve sides – the latter having since moved to Binfield – until the end of the 2016/17 season but a statement on the Robins website read: “Whilst we remain committed to support the future development of girls and ladies football, the timing is not right to integrate the current senior ladies team into our club. ”

Former Bracknell first team manager Sean Haynes said: “After years of playing together this would have been a huge shame. We are very happy to make our new home within a thriving community led club like Wokingham & Emmbrook.”

“The Sumas now has a quality football pathway that gives families in Wokingham the opportunity to start at five years old and progress right the way through to a competitive level in both the men’s and women’s game.”

The Women’s team will train with Wokingham’s existing under 18s girls team on Monday nights during the summer from 7pm to 8.15pm at Cantley Park. The Women’s team will play in the Southern Region Division 1 starting in September.

Haynes said: “New players are welcome to come and join in at either the under 18 or adult ladies team level. Please contact Sean on 07917 544173 for more information.
