It was an afternoon of firsts for the women’s teams across our area with Ascot United’s first and reserve sides winning their first league games along with newly formed Wokingham & Emmbrook.

For the Yellawomen’s first team it was a terrific 4-0 Southern Region Women’s League Premier Division victory over Milton Keynes City at the Racecourse Ground with Georgia Bowers opening the scoring after quarter of an hour.

Darrel Evan’s sides three further goals all came from the substitutes bench with Simone Martin making it 2-0 before half time and Mia McCreesh and Chloe Hazell putting the match beyond doubt.

For Woodley United it was an afternoon to remember, making the most of their re-inclusion in the SSE Women’s FA Cup with a 2-1 win over Alton thanks to goals from Rosie Page-Smith and May Hamblin – and there’s a full report here.

Their Division 1 North neighbours Wokingham & Emmbrook earned their first ever win thanks to two Alice Lilley goals against Oxford City Nomads at Lowther Road. There’s a report on that here.

In the Thames Valley Counties League Division 2 East Ascot United Reserves beat bottom side Taplow Reds 8-1 with Courtney Gibbons hitting a hat trick and Carol Checkley scoring twice. The other three goals came from Louise Pullen, Heather Williams and Hannah Woolf.

Sandhurst Town lost a nine goal thriller 5-4 to Woking despite a hat trick from birthday girl Shellie Irvine and another for Daisy Molloy.

A disappointing first half put paid to Binfield’s hopes of springing a surprise at Holyport going in 3-0 down at the break. A revitalised second half saw Nancy Pottinger pull one back and further chances fall to the Moles who despite conceding a late fourth were arguably the happier side come full time.
