Binfield Ladies had to settle for a point after a 1-1 draw at home to second place Guildford Saints in the Thames Valley Counties Women’s Football League Division 2 East.

The result will be a little bit of a shock in the division but in truth the Moles could, and should have had all three points but for a terrific display from visiting goalkeeper Phoebe Mau.

Binfield had setup practically against a side with a goal difference of +27 but were on top in the first half thanks to the strong running of Ruth Bowerman and Loren Cardy and led 1-0 thanks to smart thinking by Michelle Melia (pictured) from an indirect free kick.

Guildford regrouped in the second half and applied the pressure, equalising from a corner that took a big deflection – the final push though was dominated by Binfield who pressed for a winner, Ariesha Stephenson-Lewis, Melia and Amy Martin all seeing chances go wide of the far post.

Elsewhere Sandhurst Town’s tie with Taplow Reds was postponed while Ascot United Ladies Reserves were knocked out of the League Plate on penalties after drawing 3-3 with Barton Rovers.

The Yellawomen were 2-0 down but a double from Courtney Gibbons and another from Darcey Young ensured it was all square at full time. Rovers took the penalty shoot out 3-2.

In the Southern Region Women’s Football League Woodley United continued their promotion bid with a 2-0 win at home to Oxford City Nomads. Rosie Page-Smith and Mollie Haines scoring on the half hour mark to settle things early  while Wokingham & Emmbrook made further progress in the Jubilee Cup, beating Wycombe Wanderers 2-1 thanks to goals from Alice Lilley and captain Caroline Paterson.
