Woodley United’s impressive run in the Southern Region Women’s Football League Cup came to an end at the semi final stage. The Kestrels were beaten 4-0 but a report from the club states: “United exited the SRWFL league cup at the semi-final stage against Premier Division leaders Chesham United who have a 100% league record and looking to complete a league and cup double.

“Despite the score line Woodley frustrated their hosts to go in goalless at half time that saw much of the play in the visitors’ half, the cross bar deny Kat Bowers and Nicole Haines (pictured) made a number of excellent saves especially to deny the league’s leading scorer Gemma Fraser on a number of occasions when one on one.”

Elsewhere a brace from Hannah Evans wasn’t enough to earn Ascot United Ladies their first points of 2018 as they were beaten 5-2 by fellow promoted side New Milton Town in Hampshire.

The home side led 1-0 at the break in the Southern Region Women’s Football League Premier Division tie but Evans equalised twice in the second half before New Milton wrapped up the points.

In Northern Division 1 Wokingham & Emmbrook were beaten 3-1 by Wargreave who are neck and neck with second placed Woodley in the league – promotion looks set to be competed for by those two and Barton Rovers who currently lead the pack..

The Sumas goal came from captain Caroline Paterson while Wargrave’s strikes were notched by Hannah Sheehan, Alison Richardson and Katie Edwards.

There were no Thames Valley Counties Women’s Football League Division 2 East fixtures played at the weekend.
