Two years after taking a voluntary demotion, Woodley United Ladies are back in the Southern Region Women’s League Premier Division after a 6-0 win at Wargrave on the final day of the season.
The win gave the Kestrels the Division 1 Northern title by five points over nearest rivals Barton Rovers thanks in no small part to Rosie Page-Smith’s hat trick in the opening hour.
Page-Smith – the divisions top scorer with 10 goals in 10 games and 23 in all competitions, departed to applause later in the second half and was joined on the score sheet by Rebecca Lowes, May Hamblin and Jodie Penny.
After the match, team coach Nuno Antunes tweeted: “What a journey these 9 months have been. There have been ups and downs, highs and lows, smiles and tears. Late last summer I made the decision to solely dedicate my commitment to the ladies squad. Work hard on a project that I knew would have the capability to go far.”
There were certainly a few celebrations!
