Newly promoted Woodley United marked their return to the Southern Region Women’s Premier Division with a 3-2 win at New Milton Town on Sunday afternoon.

The Kestrels led on 13 minutes through third minute substitute Sarah Thompson and Jodie Penny made it 2-0 on 37 minutes before the hosts fought back and were level on 56 minutes.

As it was though so often last season, striker Rosie Page-Smith had the wherewithal to stand up in the closing stages and convert a penalty to give Marc Surtees side a first win of the season.

Ascot United Ladies were on the road themselves to newly promoted AFC Bournemouth CST but suffered a 6-1 defeat on the South Coast, Annie Ackroyd scoring the Yellawomen’s consolation goal.

In Division 1, Wokingham & Emmbrook’s season got off to a tough start with a 7-0 defeat at Moneyfields while Wargrave were beaten 3-0 at home to Abingdon United.

A better afternoon for Ascot’s reserves who flew out the blocks in the Thames Valley League Division 2 East, they won 9-0 at Camberley Town thanks to hat tricks from Nicole Brown and Lou Pullen as well as a Darcey Young brace and another from Amy Walters.
