Football in Berkshire’s Womens’ Football correspondent Abi Ticehurst takes a look back at the 2019/20 season, speaking to representatives of every Berkshire club.

This time it’s a catch up with Courtney Gibbs, club Captain of Thames Valley Counties Women’s Football League side Ascot United Ladies Reserves.

What’s the best thing about playing for the club?

My favourite thing about playing for Ascot United Reserves is being part of a team, building friendships and achieving something together. We were a new squad put together a few seasons ago by our manager Pete and I love to see how we improve week in and week out seeing all the abilities develop, especially our youngest players. We all work well together, encouraging one another helping players gain more confidence which is vital for our youngsters as some have their first season playing in a ladies’ division which can at first be scary, as I remember! But all of us players, our manager Pete and coach John always make new players feel welcome and comfortable!

What’s been your favourite moment at the club?

My favourite moment at the club is becoming the team’s captain! Sunday afternoons are always my favourite part of the week playing matches and putting in a graft with the team!

What are you doing during this extended break to keep yourself on top of your game both on and off the pitch?

I am working out every single day; including cardio and muscle work. I am walk/running for at least 30 mins and then also doing a 30 min circuit with a PT daily to ensure I stay fit and on top form ready for when we can all get back to doing what we love and playing football! Also I try to kick a ball as much as I can, in my very small garden!
